This is one of the best parks in the areaโand it's free! The 33-acre park sits right on Fort Loudon Lake and has something for every age and interest. My kids spent hours on the playground while we used one of the 7 picnic shelters for lunch. The paved greenway trail (3.3 miles) is perfect for biking, and there are tennis courts, volleyball, a boat ramp, and even a fishing pier if you want to bring your rod. They also have a splash pad that opens in May for hot summer days.
Pro tip: Bring a frisbee or ballโthere's plenty of open space. The park fills up on nice weekends, so I recommend getting there by 10am if you want the big picnic shelters.
What parents love: Two playgrounds, picnic shelters with grills, splash pad (seasonal May-Sept), paved trails for walking and biking, and it's completely free. Plus, there's a dog park nearby if you've got a pup who needs some exercise too.
