Fort Kid is a lively, fully accessible playground in Downtown Knoxville, tucked between the Victorian Houses, the Knoxville Museum of Art, and World's Fair Park. The current park (rebuilt and reopened March 6, 2023) spans 1.79 acres and is completely fenced in, making it easy to let kids roam. Highlights include a fort tower with slides, climbing and balancing poles, a fully accessible merry-go-round, a toddler play area, and an accessible play surface and path. An interactive sidewalk mural along the path doubles as a giant game board leading up to the play area.
It's a flat, stroller-friendly walk from the Sunsphere and World's Fair Park, with free public parking at the park entrance. Many families pair a trip here with the free Knoxville Museum of Art right across the street, or grab ice cream nearby. Restrooms are available nearby in World's Fair Park. On nice days it can draw school, church, and daycare groups, so mornings and weekdays tend to be quieter. There is no admission fee — it's a free public park.
Fort Kid is roughly 25 minutes from Maryville, which makes it a great change-of-scenery outing for Blount County families who want a unique urban playground.
