- Competition experience
Webb School of Knoxville has one of the oldest and most respected FIRST Robotics teams in East Tennessee - team 1466, which they call Webb Robotics. This is the kind of hands-on STEM experience that really shows kids what robotics and engineering can be.
What kids get: Team 1466 competes in the FIRST Robotics Competition, building a robot over a six-week season. They also have sister teams (1445), an FTC team (9934), and multiple FLL teams, so there are pathways for different age groups and experience levels.
Where: Webb School of Knoxville, 9800 Webb School Ln, Knoxville, TN 37923. Their team has been around since 2004, so they know what they're doing.
Age range: K-12 (different teams for different levels)
Why it matters: This is real robotics, real competition, and real teamwork. Students aren't just learning to code or build - they're working on an actual robot with real stakes, real deadlines, and real teammates. That's a different kind of learning.
Tip: If your kid is into robotics, engineering, or problem-solving, this is the kind of program that sticks with them. They've been doing this since 2004 - that's two decades of showing Knoxville kids what's possible.
