🎌 Blount County Public Library Teen Anime Club
For teens ages 13–17 who love anime and manga, the Blount County Public Library hosts a monthly club where they can discuss their favorite series, make new friends, and explore Japanese culture in a relaxed, kid-friendly environment.
When: First three Thursdays of each month at 4:00 PM Who: Ages 13–17 (teens only - this creates a dedicated space for them to connect)
What to expect: This isn't just about watching anime - it's a discussion group where teens can share their favorite shows and manga, discuss storylines and characters, and sometimes explore Japanese culture through crafts, food, or cultural activities. The library creates a safe, inclusive space for teens who might not otherwise have peers who share their interests.
Pro tip: This is a great way for introverted teens to find their community. Many parents report their teens look forward to these sessions all month, and some have even made lifelong friendships through the club. The librarian facilitators are experienced at keeping discussions positive and age-appropriate.
Location: Blount County Public Library - Main Branch (508 N Cusick St, Maryville, TN 37804). Check the library calendar for exact dates each month.
Bonus: If your teen enjoys this, they might also want to try the library's Chess Club (Saturday mornings and Wednesday evenings) or Dungeons & Dragons club (Tuesday evenings) for different kinds of social and strategic engagement.
