The Blount County Public Library hosts two Chess Club sessions every week - perfect for homeschoolers and families looking to build strategic thinking skills in a fun, social setting.
When: Saturdays 12:00–2:00 PM and Wednesdays 5:30–7:30 PM Who: All ages and skill levels welcome - whether your kid has never played chess or has been playing for years, they can participate. The club is designed to be inclusive and learning-focused.
What to expect: This isn't a competitive tournament - it's a relaxed, supportive environment where kids can play, learn, and grow their chess skills. Parents often hang out in the library while kids play, making it a great multi-task opportunity for the grownups too.
Pro tip: Bring an extra set of chess pieces if you want to practice at home between sessions. The library has sets, but having your own makes it easier to review games and teach concepts.
