🥕 Maryville Farmers' Market
- Producer-only market
- Fresh local produce
- Handmade crafts
- Fresh baked goods
- Family-friendly atmosphere
- Free parking
There's something really special about Saturday mornings at the Maryville Farmers' Market. I've been coming here since my oldest was in stroller mode, and it's become such a Saturday ritual for our family.
What makes this market different: This is a producer-only market, which means every vendor grows, makes, or bakes what they're selling. No reselling, no wholesale junk. Just real stuff from real people who know exactly how they grew their tomatoes or what kind of honey comes from their bees.
My kids love: - The smell of fresh bread from the local bakeries - Picking out colorful produce they can help cook with later in the week - The friendly faces - I mean, I know most of the vendors by name at this point - The fact that we can spend an hour or two here and it feels like a whole little outing
Pro tip: Come early (opening at 8:30am) if you want the best selection of produce, but stay late enough to chat with folks and maybe grab some breakfast from one of the vendors. We've had coffee and pastries here that made our Saturday.
When: Saturdays from 8:30-11:30am, starting April 18th through November 14th. They also run a winter market on the 1st and 3rd Saturdays December-March.
Location: Founders' Square in downtown Maryville. There's usually free parking nearby - I typically park on the square itself and it's easy to find.
Bring: A reusable bag (they have them if you forget, but bringing your own feels more... I don't know, eco-friendly?), sun protection in warmer months, and maybe an appetite if you want to try samples.
The vibe: Super friendly, very family-oriented. I've seen parents with strollers, grandparents with grandkids, families walking through together. It's one of those places where it's easy to strike up a conversation with other moms while you're browsing the produce tables.
Cost: Free to browse and enjoy the atmosphere. You pay for what you buy, and prices vary by vendor. Some things are definitely worth the splurge - like the locally made cheeses or those sweet potato things from a specific farm - and some are great budget picks too.
My go-to stops: - The berry vendors (when they have them) - Local honey from the beekeepers - Fresh eggs from the pastured hens - Any of the baked goods stalls - the smell alone is worth the trip
This market has become such a part of our Saturday routine that I forget how many months of the year it runs. It's one of those Maryville things that makes me grateful we chose to put down roots here. The vendors know the families by name, they remember what your kids liked last year, and they're genuinely happy to see you come back week after week.
If you're new to Maryville or just want to find out what local food looks like before you buy it, this is the place to start.
