Okay, real talk: the Blount County Farmers' Market is my Saturday morning religion. 🙏✨

If you've been to other farmer's markets in the county, you might think, "Oh, same thing, right?" But this one is producer-only, which means every single vendor actually grows or makes their products. No resellers, no imports, no cheap knock-offs. You're talking real farmers, real bakers, real artisans right here in downtown Maryville.

The market opens April 18th this year, and I am already making my mental list of what I need to try. My kids love just walking around and pointing at things they want to try. The opening days (April 18 & 25) have special craft activities that are super fun.

What makes this market special: - Producer-only: Every single vendor grew or made their stuff. No middlemen, no reselling. This is what other markets wish they were. - Consistent quality: I've been coming here for years, and the quality is consistently high. These are the same folks year after year. - Family-friendly: It's stroller-friendly, there's plenty of parking, and the kids can actually run around a bit without bothering anyone. - Community vibe: You'll see the same friendly faces every week. It's become a ritual for me and my homeschooling buddies.

What you'll find: - Fresh produce (local veggies, fruits, berries) - Homemade breads and baked goods - Honey and preserves - Plants and flowers - Handmade crafts - Sometimes hot food (depends on the vendors)

Mom tips: - Get there early for the freshest produce and best parking - Bring cash (some vendors prefer it, though many take cards now) - The 200 block has Founders Square Parking Lot right nearby (free!) - Great for letting kids be independent – they can pick out their own strawberry or flower - Ask vendors about what's in season – it changes throughout the summer - Bring reusable bags! The world isn't going to save itself

The opening weekend special: The first two Saturdays (April 18 & 25) have special craft activities. My kids have done crafts before here, and it's usually pretty organized. There's often a themed activity that ties into the season – spring crafts in April, summer themes later.

Honest review: I'm not gonna lie – sometimes the market is crowded on Saturday mornings. But that's the price of admission for quality produce and friendly vendors. If you're going with young kids, I'd suggest going early (right at 8:30) when it's less packed. Or come later in the season when the crowds thin out a bit.

Special note about SNAP/EBT: This market accepts EBT/SNAP benefits, which is huge for families who need assistance. They have a token system that makes it easy to use your benefits at the market.

Bottom line: If you're new to Maryville, if you have kids who love to explore, or if you just want to support local farmers – this is your spot. I come here religiously, and so do a ton of other families. It's become a weekend tradition, and I genuinely look forward to it every Saturday.

Bring your kids, bring your shopping bags, and bring your appetite for fresh, local food. You won't regret it.

Until next Saturday, happy shopping! 🛒
