Cherry Blossoms Have Bloomed

The Pink Clouds Are Here
They're here. The cherry blossoms.
I stepped outside this morning and they were everywhere. Like someone just turned on a pink cloud machine and suddenly the entire town is wrapped in pastel dreams. It's that specific kind of beautiful that makes you stop walking. Makes you take a breath. Makes you say, "oh my god," out loud.
When Did This Happen?
Seriously. One day there's nothing. Just bare branches and buds and the promise that something might come. The next day? Full-blown pink explosion. It's like the trees got a text message that said "BLOOM NOW" and they all just did it at once.
That's the thing about cherry blossoms . they don't do subtle. They don't ease into it. They don't have the Bradford pears' delicate white grace. No, cherry blossoms are like, "I'm here and I'm making a statement."
They're bold. They're bright. They're the kind of flower that makes you pull over on the side of the road and take a picture. Because obviously. You can't not take a picture.
What They Look Like
The cherry blossoms are these perfect little clusters of pink. Each one is maybe an inch across, maybe two if you're generous. They grow in these tight bunches along the branches, so when they're all open at once, it looks like someone dipped the trees in pink paint and let it drip.
Some of them are light pink, almost pastel. Some are a bit more saturated, a bit more... assertive. All of them are perfect. There's no such thing as a bad cherry blossom, which is nice. Sometimes you want the world to be that simple.
Why They Make Me Feel
I don't know. Maybe it's just the color. I've always had a thing for pink. It's not that I think I'm a "pink person" . I'm not. I'm the kind of person who wears leggings for three days in a row because they're comfortable. I'm the kind of person who wears a UT sweatshirt to the grocery store at 7 PM on a Tuesday.
But when I see the cherry blossoms, I feel something. I feel like... spring is really here. Not just the promise of it, not just the "it's getting warmer" feeling. I feel like we're actually in the season. I feel like I can stop bracing for the cold and actually enjoy the warmth.
The Timeline
Here's what I know about cherry blossoms now:
They bloom around mid-April. Not early April. Not late April. Mid-April. Like, if you're going to the Botanical Gardens, go now. Don't wait. Don't think, "I'll go next week." Go now.
They only last a week. Maybe two if you're lucky and the weather holds out. A strong wind, a heavy rain, and they're gone. Like they never existed. That's the thing . you're supposed to be there, but you're not always there because you're doing laundry or picking kids up from school or trying to keep your kids from eating the same snack every single day.
They're everywhere. Not just at the Botanical Gardens. Not just in one part of town. They're on the street where I live. They're on the street where my in-lives live. They're on the street where my husband works. They're everywhere. And they're all the same. It's like the whole city got painted pink all at once.
What I'm Doing
I'm pulling over when I see them and just... staring. For a full minute, I'll just stand there and look at the trees. I'm taking photos. I'm telling people they're blooming. I'll enjoy them while they're here!
The Beauty of It
You know what I love about the cherry blossoms? They're not trying to be anything. They're not trying to be the Bradford pears. They're not trying to be the dogwoods or the magnolias or the azaleas. They're just... cherry blossoms. They're just what they are.
And that's enough. That's so much more than enough. It's everything.
I'll enjoy them while they're here.
